But, I do know about a World for both genders.
It is called Habbo, it is free to sign up on.

For Example, you can purchase a three month Habbo Club package, for say $30.00 it only lasts for a certain time.

I dont know the maturity level of 11 year olds nowadays...but in my time...my mother did some nice things for my birthdays...I hope this helps:
1) we baked cookies and decorated them ourselves with, sprinkles, icing, etc making faces, or pretty patterns.
2)pass the parcel a classic but they can have prezzies like lip gloss or stick on earings
3) karaoke is always fun...and my niece who is around that age loves high school musical..which could be a good karaoke dvd
4)another thing we did at my parties was buy blank puzzles and draw out own pictures on them with markers, then they can break them up and pass them around for other friends to build and see the picture
5)also you can get small plaster statues and paint those to keep busy and they can take them home in their baggies
6) If all else fails have nice food..some pop music and games like uno, scrabble, operation, monopoly out for them to play and a movie running

You come up with a list of clues that lead to where you've hidden either certain objects or other clues. In the end, whoever finds all of the clues/prizes first, wins an even bigger prize! I was never very good at the game, but I loved playing regardless. I also found this article online that list other scavenger hunt themed games that children would love to play as well. If it's nice and sunny, you should buy some inexpensive water guns and let the kids have at it.
There's also the classics: tug-o-war, Red Rover, tag, Hide and Seek, races, et cetera. Putting a twist on these games could be great fun! Blindfold the seeker, tug-o-war with only one hand or leg, racing in a specific way (leapfrog!); the possibilities are endless! Some may be "kid" games, but they can still be really fun for teenagers, too!
And if you're comfortable with it, a twisted game of truth or dare. If someone chickens out of a dare or truth, they have to be subjected to a bombardment of water by balloons or gun!

At 8 I'd suggest the original sims, it is not as graphic as Sims2. Use discretion. Rollercoaster Tycoon is a pretty fun game. What is she interested in? You can find games related to almost any field. I got my sister SIMhospital when she wanted to be a doctor, and a realestate tycoon game when she changed her mind. Depends on the kid, of course, but some good card games a 9-yr old might enjoy are Go Fish, Gin Rummy, Uno, Skip Bo, and Phase 10. Or try crafts. Printed cross stitch, weaving bracelets, or making earrings are fun crafts that are easy enough for a 9 yr old. There are a lot of fun, free, and appropriate computer games online, too. www.imbee.com has a great webiste for kid-friendly webpages if she'd like to create her own blog and photo album for family and friends. Find out what she likes and build on it!

We LOVE to play Twister... she doesn't really get all the rules, but we still have a blast.. you can practice body parts and colors.
My daughter loves to do mazes (not an interactive game, but nothing makes her happier... we buy the Kumon brand books... I've bought "Easy Mazes" more than three times.. there's also ones you can download off the internet for free.. maybe someone has a good link for easy ones.. I haven't found any simply ones like the Kumon Easy Mazes book. Helps them develop pencil skills.
Finger painting. Again, not a game... but everyone can have fun.
We do play a lot of hide-and-seek. We "play" ring-around-the-rosy constantly... even go to trampolines and play it.
My daughter is 2 1/2 and besides imaginative play (which I do with her all day long) we don't play structured "games" per se. When I say imaginative play, I mean we go to the forest and pretend leaves are fish and they swim on the trail and we tell each other what kind of fish the leaves are (eucalyptus leaves are often norwahls, madrone leaves are palette tangs, etc) We pick up sticks and pretend they are fishing poles. There's a little tree that we've placed a smooth, flat rock by and we call it the fairy tree. We bring the fairies gifts of licon, moss, ferns, little rocks, leaves and we sit and have pretend tea by the "table" beneath the fairy tree. I have a bug catcher and we look at bugs and leaves and things in it. We pretend the dog is a swamp ghost (from Lu and the Swamp Ghost) and we run from bridge to bridge (they're the "safe" zone, the swamp ghost can't get us there. Or we pretend our friend who sometimes walks with us is a landshark and she can't get us when we're on the "pontoon boat" (a raised trail.) It goes on and on.... a different adventure nearly every day and sometimes the same adventures.. she chooses the characters and I help build the drama. And we learn what the 'actual' names of the trees, leaves, grasses, ferns, bugs, wildflowers are along the way. We go to a local stables a few times a week and at this point the stable manager lets her help feed one of the horses and prepare the horse's food for the next day. Some of the owners will walk her around the stable yard bareback while I hold her arm and leg. We count horses, stable cats, flags, learn the different parts of the horse's gear (bridal, bit, etc.)
We sing the ABCs every day, at least once, and we usually have a "letter of the day" where we draw the letter, identify it by sight, talk about words that start with that letter throughout the day, look for the "big" letter and the "baby" letter in the signs we pass.
We play red light, green light.
We play with bubbles.
We count everything and then we count it again.
We draw with sidewalk chalk (though I find, increasingly, she tells me what to draw and then she makes what ever I drew throw up or poop. She was sick recently... I guess that's where that came from???)
We play with duplos (fine motor skills) and doodle boards (fine motor, pencil skills) and lately I've started a game when we're coloring where I draw shapes and letters on the top of the paper and draw the same shapes and letters in a different order at the bottom of the paper and she draws a line and connects the matching shapes/letters.
Lately she's developed a strange fascination with cars, so she calls out every car we pass by when we're walking (and sometimes driving) based on the logos. At first I thought it was strange, but then I realized it could be a good preperatory exercize for sight identification of letters (what's a letter but a symbol. what's a car logo, but a symbol.. and most of them have letters in the symbols.. the H is for Honda, the L is for Lexus, etc.)
We spend several hours, nearly every day, hiking. I can't tell you how much this has fostered her imagination and love of nature. We "toddler hike" so we take it slow and leave an agenda at home.
Anything can be a game. Whatever you're doing.. have fun.. it's more important than discipline. Follow her lead.. if she picks up a worm, after she's sleeping at night, search the web, find some neat facts, tomorrow draw a worm, talk about the kind of worm, name the worm, talk about what it eats, get a stuffed worm, make a stuffed worm, spell out worm and talk about the letter "W" and how it kind of looks like a wiggly worm, pretend to be worms, buy a book about snakes (Verdi is a good one) or worms (Richard Scarry's Early Bird would be fun)... watch what she's interested in, pick up on it and run with it.. the possibilities are endless. Then start matching games with the things she knows... Have her tell other people about worms and gauk at what a smarty she is. You get the picture.

When a society - and most western societies do - has competition at the heart of its being, it will influence every aspect of life. I quit swimming because it stopped being about me being able to swim faster than somebody for fun to being about HAVING to win at all cost. It became about pushing myself harder and harder till there wasn't anybody that was able to push ahead of me. And it really started sucking. Because before long, I didn't wanna get in the pool. Before long, I didn't wanna swim to win. I just wanted to swim at my own pace and lose.
So I quit the team and it was like Heaven. And I do miss the swimming almost everyday. I think I'll always miss the joy of going through the water as fast as I possibly can. But I missed not being able to swim for joy a whole hell of a lot more.
And that's an insiders view on the problem a little. They make it so that sport you're so passionate about isn't about fun anymore. It's about winning and doing it better than anybody else. They make it so once you're good, it's time to be better. Because it's never enough to just win. You have to completely humiliate the other team.
I starred your question, because I think you are on to something here. I think the shift you describe in how people experience and do sports, is to be found throughout society - not just in sports.
When a society - and most western societies do - has competition at the heart of its being, it will influence every aspect of life. For instance, around I would say 1850 the market place started to change. Quality was no longer the main issue when manufacturing goods or services, but it became about competing and winning. The same happened - over time - to politics. Nowadays, when a President is elected, he speaks of 'winning' the elections, not about being presented with the difficult task of leading the nation.
You see the same change in sports. When it is all about competition, having fun or enjoying a good game has become less important over time. The more people become competitive about things, the more intense the competition will get.
I think today's parents were the first generation who were brought up in the spirit of this urge to compete, this need to be better in comparison to someone else. The ones who didn't make it, were frustrated of course, and their frustration and negativity is easy to spot when they 'encourage' their own kids in the way you described it.

Fun games to play at girl/boy parties?
So I'm having a birthday party soon and it's gonna be a girl boy party and I was wondering what kinda games there are..and like for truth or dare can you give examples? And like for spin the bottle, how do you play? What's seven minutes in heaven? What are some other games?

I'm getting to teach my own dance class this year, and I need to know some fun games for the girls to play that helps them with learning the basic steps, like tondues and pleas.What are some fun dance games to play during a 3-4 year olds dance class?

Someone else suggest 'Ballet Simon Says', I think that would be a lot of fun. You could say "Plie" or "Tendu" while they are at the barre to make them see it as a game and learn the vocab.
'Ballet Hokey Pokey' (Tendu right leg in, Tendu right leg out, etc.) would be cute. Think of the games kids today already play and turn into the Ballet version.

A game I would suggest is turning on some music and having them all dance how ever they want to. Then when the music stops they all have to freeze in whatever pose they happen to be in. If anyone moves or falls down then they are out of the game until the last child standing wins. This game can be very fun and silly so kids absolutley love it.
How about freeze dance, ballet style. You can put on some ballet music, at the end of class, and have them review what they learned.
What about creating a song for the ballet positions? They also have a Bella Dancerella DVD game that helps to teach the positions.What are some fun dance games to play during a 3-4 year olds dance class?
There are acutally ballet playing cards that i use...they have ballet moves on them with the word and a picture. You hand them out and go around the circle...every girl does there move on the card and the other girls guess what they are doing...it is simple but fun for the girls.
You could play Simon Says with dance moves, or if learning the moves is not that important you can always play freeze dance, musical chairs or musical hoops (musical chairs with hula hoops).

-Then they can do "snakes" (our little ones say "ssss " when they come up. lol) A "snake" is on their stomach and they arch their back up. Then we ask them "what do you see?" and they usually end up screaming out stuff like elephants and dragons. Anytime they say something "scary" come back down to the starting spot but like you're afraid. Do this a couple of times.
-now they can stand up! lol.
-have them stand in first position (I'll explain a good way to have them remember later) Have them make "teacup hands", which is when they connect their thumb and middle finger. Now have them bring their teacups to the front (like first position), then side (second), a couple of times.
-next, they can bend over and pick up a "beach ball", put it on their heads (5th position) and throw it away (they just pretend to throw the ball away by opening their arms.

Anyway, you can have them do one or two of these "games" in a circle. (Again, dots are helpful for keeping them in their spots)
